By Gennadij Tscherepanow · Dent removal expert · 12 June 2023

PDR saves most dents without repainting – but not all. We honestly explain when it works, when a painter is needed, and when a dent simply can't be done with PDR.

Category 2: Push to Paint – when PDR pre-shapes and the painter finishes

FAQ
Which dents can be removed easily?
The easiest are round, shallow dents without a sharp core and with undamaged paint – typical hail dents as well as parking and door-edge dents on large areas like the roof, bonnet or doors. There the original condition can usually be fully restored.
Can Smart Repair fix deep scratches?
PDR itself fixes dents, not scratches – once the paint is cut through, a paint treatment is needed. Superficial scratches in the clear coat can often be tackled with Smart Repair; deep scratches down to the metal require proper paint repair. Send us a photo and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.
How can I tell that a dent can't be done with PDR?
Warning signs are visible paint cracks, sharp creases or folds, dents right at the panel edge or on flanges, and spots that have already been filled. Bulges that snap back and forth under pressure (oil canning) are tricky too. The reliable assessment, however, is always made by the master from a photo or the vehicle.
Is PDR worth it even for just light hail damage?
Yes, especially then. With light hail damage the dents are usually small, round and paint-friendly – ideal for PDR. The original paint stays intact, the repair is quick, and no filler enters the vehicle history, which helps preserve its value.
What does dent repair cost with you?
Every dent is individual – location, depth, panel and paint condition all matter. That's why we don't quote flat prices or use online calculators. Send us a photo, the master will assess it personally and call you back with an honest estimate within two hours (Mon–Fri, 10 am–4 pm).
Does PDR leave any trace behind?
With a successful Category 1 PDR repair you'll see no trace – the light lines run straight again and the original paint is untouched. That's exactly the goal: factory condition, not a compromise. Whether your dent allows this result, the master will assess honestly beforehand.
